Coring Bits are used in the extraction of rock samples, called cores. A steel tube called a core barrel recovers the cores. Depending on the nature of the geological formations to be cored, the driller will select a surface set bit or an impregnated diamond bit.
DIAMANT BOART manufactures tungsten carbide bits for the coring of very soft formations too.
Drilling or non-coring bits are used in order to drill boreholes without any core recovery. At customer's request, DIAMANT BOART will be ready to manufacture special designs. The outside diameters of the non-coring bits are the same as those of coring bits.
The difference between a casing shoe and a casing bit lies in the inner set diameter. The casing shoe has no diamonds set on the inner gauge and has an I.D. set size which will allow the corresponding core barrel, bit and shell to pass through it. It is used in formations subject to crumbling and where rotary casing operations are necessary. Casing bits are set with diamonds on the inner gauge and the inner diameter is smaller than that of the corresponding casing shoe. They are usually used in drilling our hard formations prior to setting of the casing. The outside diameters of corresponding casing shoes and casing bits are the same.
