A product range of DIAMOND DRILLING TOOLS
Two types of diamond tools which complement each other are available:
- Surface set bits, used for coring soft to hard formations
- Impregnated diamond bits, essentially for difficult coring operations, in both hard and fractured formations.
Surface Set Bits
These tools have on their working surface a single layer of diamonds distributed according to a specific pattern and set in an abrasive resistant matrix. DIAMANT BOART has developed a two-matrix standard: an extra-hard for abrasive formations and hard for soft to hard formations. Due to DIAMANT BOART's new progress in this field, surface set bits are usable in practically any drilling situation. However, even if the scope of these tools is rather large, the impregnated bit shows itself indispensable in most situations.
Impregnated Diamond Bits
In this type of tool, the diamond is uniformly distributed throughout the matrix bond.
The use of impregnated bit shows itself indispensable in the following applications:
- Coring in some very fractured rocks where the use of a surface set bit can be hazardous and expensive;
- Coring in very compact and very hard rocks such as quartzites, granites and silicified sandstones, for example.
In cases of wireline coring in medium hard to hard formations, impregnated bits can provide faster penetration rates and longer working life than surface set bits.
